Abstract: A SiO2 membrane of double coarsenes s was fabricated on the surface of electro-porcelain insulator by sol - gel process under acid-base catalys is through heat treatment.The membrane with the micros tructure similar to a lotus leaf, was modified by chemical vapor to form a layer of SCA molecules by self-as sembly,which was super-hydrophobic.The contact angle was determined by the hemisphere method, and effects of concentration ratio, firing temperature and modifying temperature on hydrophobicity under acid and base catalys is were s tudied through s ingle - factor experiments . Results show:acid and alkaline sol-gel synthes is has enhanced the coarseness of the membrane, whose weather res is tance and adhes ivenes s can meet the needs of electro- porcelain products including insulators .
