Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to investigate the possibility of low temperature Al2TiO5 synthesis via a mechanical activation process. After mechanical activation for 60 hours, pure and fine Al2TiO5 powders were synthesized through postannealing at temperature range of 1100 ~ 1300 ℃ using activated powders as precursor. The effect of mechanical activation on the phase transformation and grain reduction of Anatase and Corundum was investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD),thermal analysis (DTA/TGA). The results show that the synthesis temperature of Al2TiO5 can be reduced via mechanical activation of the mixture of Anatase and Corundum. The maximum Al2TiO5 formation ratio of 98 % can be reached in the case of activation for 60 hours and post-annealing at 1300 ℃ for 1 hour.
