Effect of Additives on Gelcasting Process and Green Body Properties

Abstract: In order to get the slurry with low viscosity and high solids loading as well as the green body with excellent capability through the gelcasting process,some additives were used to meet the needs for technical behaviors (molding and sintering).In this paper,the green body  bending strength and microstructure before and after  adding the additives were tested and observed.The results showed that the dispersant could decrease the viscosity of  the slurry and increase the solid loading obviously;polyethylene glycol could inhibit the surtace exfoliation of the green body;MgO was used as the sintering aid to reduce the sinter temperature and restrain the growth of crystal grain.
