Abstract: In accordance with GB / T 3534 -2002 (Standard testing methods for lead and cadmium release from domestic ceramics) the article used microwave to heat the extraction of ceramic ware and analyzed the effect of microwave heating treatment on the amount of dissolved lead and cadmium from ceramic ware. Flat ceramic wares with lead release higher than 0.500 mg/ml and cadmium release higher than 0.050 mg/ml were selected for the experiment study on the effect of microwave heating time on the amount of dissolved lead and cadmium. The experimental results showed when heated by microwave for more than 10 minutes, the concentrations of released lead and cadmium from ceramics are higher than soaked in acetic acid, and some are up to 1.5 times of the original concentration. Time increasing to 20 minutes, the concentrations of released lead and cadmium increase. This study has shown that microwave heating treatment not only accelerates the releasing of lead and cadmium from ceramic wares, but also increases the amount of dissolution.

Keywords: microwave heating, domestic ceramics, release of lead and cadmium
