Abstract: Glossiness, whiteness and thermal shock resistance were tested to study the effect of silica/alumina ratios, mat agent species, glaze fineness and cooling-down method on the mat glaze quality, in order to determine its optimal batch formula and preparation process. The results indicate that the range of SiO2/Al2O3 ratio is respectively 4~6, 4~7 and 5 for calcium,magnesium, barium and complex mat glaze and 4~9 for zinc mat glaze. Holding for a suitable time at high temperature and slow cooling are better for forming mat effect with high quality.
