Abstract: Al2O3 was provided by Al(OH)3 powder and SiO2 was provided by nano-silicon oxide or microsilica. Mullite was synthesized from mixture of Al(OH)3 powder and nano-silicon oxide or microsilica at the lower temperature 1330 ℃,and the content of mullite phase is above 90%. With the silicon carbide to be the matrix and 20% bonder material, porous Mullite/SiC Composite was synthesized. The flexural strength is 85.75 MPa when the apparent porosity is 31.46%. The influence of the Al(OH)3 powder , nano- silicon oxide and microsilica to the content and property of mullite were studied .The influence of the content of mullite and the composite' s sintering temperature to the composite were also analyzed with XRD and SEM.Porous Mullite/SiC Composite was also synthesized with andalusite to compared with Al(OH)3 powder and SiO2.
