Abstract: The mechanical and wear properties of ZTA ceramics were studied in this work. The alumina powder was mixed with the Zr(OH)4 prepared by precipitation method. The mixture was calcined at 700℃. The m(Al2O3):m(ZrO2)=80:20 composites were sintered at different temperatures between 1500℃ and 1600℃ in air. The microstructure and properties of the samples were investigated by XRD and SEM. The results showed that the highest density, the best wear resistance, the maximum bending strength of 830MPa, the highest fracture toughness of 12.7 MPa·m1/2 and the highest hardne s of 17.3GPa were obtained for the ZTA composite sintered at 1600℃. The mechanical and wear properties of Al2O3 were improved by added ZrO2.
