Abstract: High- strength light-weight proppant is able to be applied in deep wells , and is beneficial to the improvement of flow conductivity. The proppant is prepared by adding manganese mineral to bauxite. The results show that samples doped with manganese mineral have lower apparent porosity, less crack in exterior and higher crush resistance than the undoped samples sintered at the same temperature. When the manganese mineral content is 5wt%, manganese ions increase the speed of volume diffus ion and accelerate the grain growth, which results in many sealed pores and the apparent density begins to decline when the sintering temperature rises above 1250 ℃. The column mullite grains are formed homogeneously in the samples doped with manganese mineral, which plays a remarkable role in the increment of fracture toughness .

Key words:  proppant, high- strength, light-weight, mullite
