Abstract: Mechanical activation operation against powder mixture of α- Al2O3 and anatase - type TiO2 was carried out using planetary miller. High purity Al2TiO5 samples were synthesized under condition of relative low temperature. Physical chemistry development and resultants of powder mixture induced by mechanical activation were investigated, as well as these effects on formation of Al2TiO5 were also analyzed. Effect of mechanical activation was a time - dependent accumulation process according to the results of this investigation. Phase transformation, size reduction, crystal lattice strain and introduction of milling contamination induced by mechanical activation were beneficial for Al2TiO5 formation via solid-state reaction route.
