Abstract: Aventurine glaze is a rare kind of glaze, characterized by metal plate -type crystals or powder suspending in transparent glaze and glowing with extraordinary splendour under the light. Traditional preparation of aventurine glaze has toxicity risk and the glaze would dissolve out a very high amount of lead when in use, frits are widely used, and the preparation process is a very complex. What is more, the crystallization at high temperature is very hard to control; therefore, the aventurine glaze is very valuable. In this paper, the ferric oxide aventurine glaze, which was nmentfriendly, lead -free and nontoxic, was fabricated by firing at a low temperature and using ferric oxide, borax, quartz and feldspar as raw materials. The process technology was then studied. The effect of crystallization on the composition of glaze, glazing thickness, firing temperature and holding time was analyzed. The aventurine glaze formula with good effect and the reasonable technical parameters were obtained.

Keywords: aventurine glaze, glaze's formula, raw materials, lead-free
