Abstract: Activated carbon from sewage sludge modified by γ-Al2O3 membrane was made. The effects of activation conditions on the desulfurization properties of activated carbon from sewage sludge modified by γ-Al2O3 were investigated. The pore structure and the pore surface chemistry were investigated by Brunauer-Emett-Teller (BET) and chemical technology. The results show that : BET surface area increased with activation temperature before 600℃, but decreased with activation temperature after 600℃. Basic groups increased with activation temperature. Adsorption of sulfur dioxide were improved by BET area and basic groups. Basic groups increased with activation time before 60min, but decreased with activation temperature after 60min. Activation time should be controlled to obtain a better adsorption of sulfur dioxide.

Keywords: activated carbon from sewage sludge modified byγ-Al2O3, activation conditions, desulfurization
