Abstract: Silver nanoparticles with different morphologies and sizes were synthesized by hydrothermal method in the presence of poly (vinyl pyrrolidone). Glucose, trisodium citrate and ascorbic acid were respectively used as reductants in the preparation. The results show that the morpholosies and sizes of silver nanoparticles could be controlled by altering the reductant species, which can largely effect the nucleation and growth environment of the crystals. In this work, the growth rate of the crystals exceeds the nucleation rate of the crystals, resulting in the larger size of the nanoparticles prepared by the reductant with stronger reducing power.

Keywords: hydrothermal method, PVP, silver nanoparticles, morphology
