Cultural and Aesthetic Significance of Jian Ware Tea Bowls

Abstract: Jian Kiln as one of the famous kilns during the Northern and Southern Song Dynasties is highly acclaimed for its manufacture of black-glazed stoneware. Jian ware temmoku tea bowls have been treasured representatives of Chinese tea service vessels in history. As the products of their time, they reflect its social, political and economic contexts, aesthetics,technology and craftsmanship. They are also the products of the Song Dynasty tea culture, and have in some way promoted its development and spread. Their delicate shape, lustrous glaze and classic body are the harmonious integration of utility and beauty.
