Abstract: The two-step microwave sintering (TSMS) technology was studied to discover the effects of the sintering parameters on the densification, grain growth and fracture toughness of alumina ceramics. The mechanism of TSMS was also investigated by comparing with the two-step conventional sintering (TSCS). The results showed that TSMS can effectively reduce the sintering temperature and time to achieve high density, hardness, and fracture toughness, although it has no obvious effects on suppressing the grain growth.
