Abstract: Daily-use porcelain bodies were prepared using feldspar, kaolin, porcelain stone, quartz and talc as main raw materials, and α-Al2O3 as an additive. The effects of different amounts and different particle sizes of α-Al2O3 were investigated. The results indicated that superior quality body with the rupture strength of 112.8 MPa, the firing shrinkage of 9.4% and the water absorption of 0.12% could be prepared by adding 9wt.% α-Al2O3 in the particle size of 0.5 μm and firing at 1380 ℃.

Key words: α-Al2O3 daily-use porcelain; rupture strength; distortion
