Abstract: TiCx/Cu composite was prepared through in situ hot pressing reaction using Ti and Cu powders and graphite as raw materials. The phase compositions of the raw material and the composite were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD). Meanwhile, the micro-structure was observed through the scanning electron microscope (SEM). The tensile strength of TiCx/Cu composite was tested and the fracture mechanism was analyzed. The results showed that the reinforced phase was formed by the spread of Ti towards the graphite. When the stoichiometric ratio of C and Ti was less than 1 : 1, TiCx was formed because of the absence of C. The tensile strength of the composite was 630.32 MPa, and the fracture strain was 9.43%.
