Abstract: TiC- Ti5Si3 composites were in situ synthesized by salt molten heat treatment using Ti, Si and C powders. The result shows that the raw materials were fully transformed to TiC and Ti5Si3. Ti5Si3 grains in the sample at 900 ℃ were dentritic. It had a diameter of about 60nm and a length of 0.5~1 μm. TiC grains in this sample were granules. It had an average size of 50~200 nm. Dentritic Ti5Si3 grains had a diameter of 0.1~0.5 μm and a length of 2~6 μm in the sample at 1100 ℃. TiC grains had an average size of 50~500 nm.
