Study on the Superfast Synthesis of MgAION Spniel by Spark Plasma Sintering(SPS)

Abstract: The synthetic mechanism of the MgAI0N spinel prepared by spark plasma sintering (SPS) using MgO, AIN and Al2O3 powders as raw materials was investigated in this paper.The dense and single一phase MgAION ceramics were superfast fabricated by SPS at 1600℃ with soaking time of 5min and at 1700℃ with soaking time of lmin,respectively.The study of synthetic mechanism of MgALON spinel showed that,at relatively low temperatures(less than 1200℃)the MgO reacted with AL2O3 to form magnesium aluminate spinel,which is a intermediate phase in process of formation of MgALON .When the sintering temperatures were over 1300℃,ALN dissolved into intermediate phase to form into MgAION. When the sintering terperatures were over 1300℃,AIN dissolved into intermediate phase to form into MgAION spinel.
