Abstract: Pr-doped zirconium silicate (Pr-ZrSiO4) precursor powder was prepared by hydrothermal method using praseodymium oxide, TEOS, zirconyl chloride (ZrOCl2.8H2O) as raw materials and then heated at 1050 ℃ to get Pr-ZrSiO4 yellow ceramic pigment. The samples were characterized by XRD, particle size analyzer and colorimetric analyzer, etc. Experimental results show: keeping L* and a* values almost unchanged, the b* value of the prepared sample increased firstly and then decreased with the increase of pH. When the pH was 5, the yellow value of b* of the sample heated at 1050 ℃ reached the maximum (L*=92.27, a*=2.88, b*=43.85). It is due to the high crystallinity, small median diameter, narrow particle size distribution and the strong absorption of 380-430 nm ultraviolet light that the sample exhibits intensive yellow tone.

Key words: pH; Pr-ZrSiO4 yellow; ceramic pigment
