Abstract: In this paper, ultrasonic vibration machining was used to machine alumina based ceramic cutting tool materials, ie, Al2O3/SiCw 、Al2O3/Ti:Bi/SiCw 、 Al2O3/Ti:Bi and Al2O3 /TiC ceramic cutting tool materials. Results showed that this machining technique can be applied to machine this materials with high surface integrity. The principle of this machining processes is described. The effect of material compositions on the machining efficiency and the surface roughness is also discussed.
