Abstract:In this paper, a sol -gel co -precipitation method was developed to synthesize Fe2O3 /SiO2 red pigments. The as -prepared samples were characterized by XRD, colorimeter and SEM. The influences of Si/Fe, pH, firing temperature and mineralizer on the color of the obtained pigments were investigated. The result shows that the red a-value decreased with the increasing of the molar ratio of Si/Fe and the firing temperature. The red a-value increased with the increasing of the pH value. When the pH was 10, the red a-value is 28.93. The mineralizer was beneficial to the red a-value. When the amount of the mineralizer is lower than 3%, LiF is the most effective mineralizer. However, when the amount of the mineralizer is more than 3%, NaF is the most effective mineralizer.

Keywords:sol-gel, co-precipitation, SiO2 / Fe2O3 red pigment, ceramic pigment
