Abstract:Porous alumina ceramics with high porosity and high strength were prepared by polymeric sponge dipping method. The effects of foams pretreatment and sintering temperature on the properties of porous ceramics were studied. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) results showed that porous alumina ceramics with high porosity, homogeneously distributed pore, good pore connectivity were obtained using polyurethane foam, which was dipped in alcohol and washed by water, as molding materials. The diameter of pore was about 0.3~1 mm. The optimized sintering temperature of porous ceramics was 1600 ℃, the ceramics porosity was above 67%, and the rupture strength of the porous ceramics was 5.6 Mpa.

Keywords:porous alumina ceramics, polymeric sponge dipping method, polyurethane foam, porosity
