Abstract: It was studied that the process of directly synthesizing sialon/Al₂O₃ compound material using clay and Alumina powders by carbonthermal reduction－nitridation method．And the influence of the phase composition and the relative content of sialon on the strength‚bulk density and the thermal shock resistance have been sutdied．The reults show that the process is simple and feasible‚with the increasing of sialon content the strength and the thermal shock resistance increase‚and the bulk density decreases．
