Abstract: Used various of sources of SiO2Si2N2O was prepared by carbothermal reduction and nitridation of SiO2These soures of SiO2 were: (A)natural quartz powder; (B)Na2SiO3;(C)natural quartz powder mixed Na2CO3 , and (D)activated SiO2 . The following conclussions could be obtained by comparing the experiment results: (1) It is difficult to synthesize Si2N2O from Source (A) ; (2) Although the process in which Source (B) was used would be simplier and the purity of Si2N2O synthesized by using Source (C) would be higher, it was difficult to synthesize Si2N2O from Source (B) and (C) in industry, because the SiO2 contents in Source (B) and (C) were too low; (3) Not only the purity of Si2N2O synthesized from activated SiO2 would be higher, but also the synthesizing process was more valuable in industrial application, although the proce was more difficult than both process in which Source (A) and (B) were used, respectively.
