Abstract: In this paper the structure and interface structural characteristics of WC/Co laser cladded coatings, as well as their forming mechanism is researched. The distribution characteristics of composition and hardness of the coatings is analyzed. The results show that laser cladding can cause the elimination of the lamallar structural characteristics of plasma sprayed WC/Co coatings and the formation of the continuous and compact cladding coatings. Different composition, temperature gradient and cooling speed in diffrent areas of the coatings lead to the primary phase has several kinds of structural feathers, such as dendritic,polygon lumpish, petaloitic, lathy and particlate. The metallurgical combining interface between the cladding coating and matrix is achieved, the bonding zone width is about 3 - Sum. The microhardness of WC/Co coating cladded by laser comes up to 1794HVo.1
