Abstract: The surface machining damage and its effect on the strength of mullite - based hot - pressed sintered ZTM/SiCp ceramics were studied. The machining induces two effects on the surface of ceramics: machining cracks and machining surface residual compressive stress. The strength has bigger deterioration after machined, but after annealing, the strength of machined samples would be improved.
