Abstract: Ceramic - cemented carbide compact insert was developed using hot pressing sintering technique. The upper part of the compact insert was made of Al2O3/TiC ceramic material, while the base plate was made of WC/Co cemented carbide. Therefore, the compact insert can take the advantage of high hardness, good heat resistance of the ceramic material and high strength, toughness of the cemented carbide. It was found that the diffusion of Co and W of the cemented carbide into the ceramic material improved the adhesion strength of the interface.
