Abstract: Sol－Gel method is applied in coating cemented TiC‚（W‚Ti）C carbide powders with ceramics‚and two kinds of new coated cutting tool materials－ceramic－coated powder cutting tool materials FTC₁and FTC₂are obtained by hot pressing technology．Ceramic－coated powder tool materials FTC₁and FTC₂are suitable for cutting carbon steels and quenched steels continuously．SEM is used to observe the morphology of the fracture surfaces‚which proves that there exists a well distribution layer of Al₂O₃ceramic in the matrix powder surface．The mechanical properties and micro－structure of the materials are investigated． The definition of coating powder method gives guides to the preparation of coated cutting tool materials．
