Abstract:Aluminium titanate hollow balls were prepared by the rolling -ball technology, using aluminium titanate, mullite, magnesium aluminate spinel as starting materials, amylum as a pore -making agent and PVA as an adhesive agent.A porous insulating material was also prepared by the plastic formation method with the above hollow balls as main raw materials. Effects of particle sizes of hollow balls on the coefficient of heat conductivity, compressive strength and bulk density, etc. were investigated. The results show that the porous insulating material with good performances (namely, coefficient of heat conductivity 0.126w/k·m, bulk density 1.26g/cm3 and compressive strength 6.43MPa) may be obtained when the proportion of big, middle and small hollow ball is 3 : 4 : 3 (mass ratio) after heat treatment at 1500℃ for 60min.
