Abstract: A concept‚coefficient of the fracture resistance‚is proposed for the characterization of the fracture resistance of the ceramic tool materials.Then‚ model for the composition design of the composite ceramic tool material has been built based on the fracture resistance.The optimum designs are carried out with examples of Al2O3/SiC/(W‚i)C and Al2O3/SiC/Ti(C‚N) ceramic tool materials.Relationships between the reliability of the ceramic tools and the material constituents are also discussed theoretically.It seems that it is feasible to build an indirect relations between them. As a result‚he composition design of the composite ceramic tool materials based on the tool reliability can eventually realized.
