Abstract: The reliability of ceramic cuting tools is very important in manufacturing production. Based on the Weibull reliability theories and taking the maximum tensile stress principle as damage criterion, two kinds of methods for calculating the cutting reliability are proposed here which are analytical method and finite element method respectively. It is proved by the calculation that the cuting reliability can be quickly acquired by analytical method, but the precision is not so perfect. So long as the model is properly established , the finite element method can compute the cutting reliability more accurately than the analytical method.
