Abstract: Porous ceramic filtration materials have been made by sintered red mud as main material. The relationship of the range of firing temperatures , porosity, crushing strength, acid res is tance, alkali res is tance and micros tructure were characterized on the content of red mud and firing temperature was s tudied. The phys icochemical properties and micros tructure have been tes ted. The results showed that the content of red mud and firing temperature are main factors both of which produce mutual effects influencing all performances of specimens .The poros ity (Pa) is 37.29% , water absorption (Wa) is 19.61%, bulk density (D) is 1.90kg/m3, crushing strength is 24.54MPa, acid res is tance is 84.01%, alkali res is tance is 98.98%, the pores are three - dimens ionally bonded of dis tributing uniformity, when the specimen was fired at 1120℃ with 50 wt% start content of red mud. These well meet the requirements for the applications in sewage disposal.

Keywords: sintered red mud, porous ceramic filtration materials , content of red mud, properties , micros tructure
