Abstract: The purpose of the human creative activities is ,first of all,to meet their aspirations for some practical function.The“function”becomes the essential base for the art of making.For the “Hu”(teapot) as an important kind of Chinese ceramics,the origin and development of its shapes have, without any doubt,followed the common laws as in the making of any other ves sels .Among different factors , which produce effects on the shapes of Hu, the factor of function is the mos t es sential and determinant.With the factor of “unction”as a focus ,the following es say is an analys is of the development of shapes of the Hu-like ves sels from specific his torical periods .
