Abstract: Al₂O_3/5%Mullite composite was synthesized by using reacting sintering of Al₂O₃/0.78%SiC at 1600°C for 2 h  in air. The composite exhibited quite low mechanical properties . There were two kinds of mullite in the composite, i.e., 3Al₂O₃·2SiO₂ and Al_5.65Si_0.35O_9.175.
