Abstract:The chemical composition, colouration mechanism and physical performance of plain temmoku wares from Jian Kiln and Jizhou Kiln, respectively, were studied by using EDXRF, SEM and thermal dilatometer, etc. By analyzing the characteristics of their body and glaze through multivariate statistical method, preliminary discoveries were made about the body compositions of black temmoku wares from the two kilns and their body batch characteristics. Meanwhile, combined with physical properties of the samples and the testing results, the similarities and differences between temmoku wares from Jian Kiln and Jizhou Kiln and their coloring mechanism were discussed, and the main reasons for their colour generation were preliminarily explored.

Key words: plain temmoku; chemical composition; colouration mechanism
