Abstract: Submicron HAP powder was prepared by the ultrafine grinding of natural hydroxyapatite from burnt animal bones. The preparation process was optimized and the composition, grain size distribution and microstructure of HAP powder were analyzed by SEM and XRD. Then HAP bioceramics was fabricated by solid state sintering. Its sintering parameters were determined as follows: the sintering temperature was 1250℃, the optimal doping amount of the forming agent was 6%, and the sintering time was 4h. The ignition loss was 3.19% and its density was 3.04g.cm -3. Phase compositions and morphologies of bioceramic samples were characterized by XRD and SEM.
