Abstract: Mineral tourmaline was heat treated at different temperatures. The effect of temperature on far-infrared emissivity and phase of tourmaline was investigated by DTA, XRD, SEM and EDS. The results showed that the far -infrared emissivity value of tourmaline increased with the increasing of temperature, and achieved 0.927 when the temperature was 900℃, which was the highest. The phase of tourmaline transformed from dravite, feruvite, schorl to albite, anorthite and uvite and ome sintering behavior happened. The transformation of crystals, change of valence state and defects of crystal structure were the main reasons why far-infrared emissivity of tourmaline increased after heat-treatment.

Keywords: tourmaline, far-infrared emissivity, heat treatment
