Abstract: The cordierite green tapes were fabricated successfully through aqueous tape casting with polyvinyl alcohol as binders, which had smooth surface, homogenous microstructure and good flexibility. It is concluded that appropriate cordierite suspensions for tape casting process with low viscosity and good stability can be prepared, in the condition that the contents of dispersants and binders were 0.9wt% and 7wt%-10wt%, respectively, the addition of plasticizer amount of binder of 60wt%-90wt% and the PH value about 10. The cordierite green tapes produced by the aqueous tape casting process possess high strength and density after being sintered at 1440℃ with a holding time of 70 minutes. The relative density of 96.14% can be obtained for the well -sintered sample. This paper also studied the cordierite green tapes by means of DTA and TGA. According to the results, a suitable binder-removal system has been set up for the sintering of the cordierite green tapes.
