Abstract: Alumina porous ceramics were fabricated by an ice template method using sodium silicate solution as binder. The microstructure of the products was observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results show that ice is an ideal template for preparation of porous ceramics. The microstructure of the porous ceramics is directly influenced by the slurry characteristic. When the slurry concentration increases, the pore size becomes smaller gradually. When the viscosity of the slurry decreases, a layered microporous microstructure can be obtained.
