Abstract: The microstructure, chemical composition and coloration of Qing Dynasty (including the periods of Emperors Kangxi,Yongzheng, Qianlong and Daoguang) porcelain shards with sacrificial red glaze were studied respectively with the optical microscope, the energy dispersion spectrometer, and the colorimeter. The characteristics of different layers of the glaze were analyzed, and the relationships of their microstructure with their chemical composition and firing technology and the effects of their microstructure on the chromaticity of Qing Dynasty sacrificial red glaze were explored.

Key words: sacrificial red glaze; coloration; layered structure of the glaze; Qing Dynasty official ceramics
