Abstract: The influence of low -temperature and high -temperature binders on macroporous ceramics was studied. The results showed that when starch ether was used as a low -temperature binder, the specimens could be well formed without distortion during oxidative decarburization. And when kaolin and feldspar were used as high-temperature binders, the porous ceramic specimens with bending strength of 18MPa and porosity of 38% were prepared. Microstructure analysis showed that the high-temperature binder was uniformly distributed on the surface and joints of mullite particles and the overall structure of the sample was homogeneous.

Key words: binder; mullite; porous ceramics
