Abstract:In fusion reactors, tritium permeation barriers should obtain properties of low tritium permeability, high hardness and electrical resistivity and so on. Therefore, the stability of α-Al2O3 is extremely vital for the fabrication of high performance tritium permeation barriers. In the present study, the stability of α-Al2O3 in high temperature hydrogen atmosphere was investigated. The result shows that the crystal structure and electrical properties of α-Al2O3 were very stable. The mechanical properties of α-Al2O3 were decreased through hydrogenation. The single crystal samples decreased from 1600 kgf/mm2 to 1200 kgf/mm2, and the ceramic samples decreased from 1100 kgf/mm2 to 900 kgf/mm2.
