Abstract: This paper discusses the changes of low-temperature lead-glazed pottery from the Western Han Dynasty to the Northern Dynasties. By analyzing the decoration styles of the glazed pottery during this period, it tries to clarify how early glazed pottery developed. The appearance of single-color glazed pottery and the prevalence of multi-color glazed pottery in the two Han Dynasties, the reappearance of dual-color pottery with some modifications in the Northern Qi Dynasty based on the slow development over the Three Kingdoms and the two Jin Dynasties, and its close relationship with Sui and Tang tri-color glazed pottery, are explicitly discussed.

Key words: Han Dynasty; Northern Dynasty; low-temperature lead-glaze; pottery; decoration.
