Green Body of PCRBSC by Gel-casting with the Second Carbon Black Particles

Abstract: The green body of pure carbon reaction bonded silicon carbide was prepared by gel-casting with the second carbon black particles made from carbon black, and its microstructure was observed by SEM. The results showed: the viscosity of the slurry was the lowest when 1.0%~1.5% PVP dispersing agent was added, and the reasonable grain size distribution could reduce the viscosity; when the sizes of the second carbon black particles were less than 37μm, the particles were bonded closely together and the strength was higher, so the body could satisfy the needs of processing; the shrinkage of the body while being molded was mainly because of solidifying, and the higher solid loading of slurry, the smaller shrinkage rate in solidifying.
