Abstract: Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) powders were synthesized via boric acid - melamine method. The effect of starting materials proportion and calcining temperatures on the composition, purity, crystallinity and micromorphology of h-BN powders were researched.Subsequently, BN/silicone rubber composites were fabricated by adding h-BN powders into silicone rubber. The effect of h-BN addition amounts on thermal and mechanical performances were also researched. The results show that h-BN powders with high purity, high crystallinity and high yield are obtained at calcination temepreture of 1950 ℃ and optimum starting materials molar ratio of boric acid :melamine = 3 : 1. The thermal conductivity, tensile strength and tear strength of BN/silicone rubber with 2wt.% h-BN addition reach up to 0.24 W/(m · K)、9.45 MPa and 18.48 MPa.
