Abstract: Alumina support was prepared by slip casting method using alumina of the average particle size of 5 μm as main material.Combined with dip coating process, the top membrane was prepared on the alumina support using alumina powders. In order to obtain the controlled preparation parameters of the microstructure and permeability of the top membrane, the effects of the particle size of raw material on the thickness, pore size and water permeate flux of the top membranes were studied. The results show the top membrane has a uniform microstructure and narrow pore size distribution. The thickness of the top film prepared with Al2O3 powder of different particle sizes reduces from 18 μm to 11 μm, and the most probable pore size decreases from 120 nm to 60 nm, and the water flux reduces from 1894.60 L·m-2·h-1·bar-1 to 1588.76 L·m-2·h-1·bar-1. The experimental results provide a controllable quantitative preparation method for the microstructure and permeability of the top membrane..

Key words: top membrane; microstructure; permeability; controllable preparation
