Abstract: Yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG: Y3Al5O12) has cubic and garnet structure. It has been widely used in the field of laser and optical materials because of its good uniformity in optical properties, and no birefringence effect. In this article, powders of amorphous structure yttrium oxide (Y2O3) and alumina (Al2O3) prepared via the sol-gel method adopted solid state reaction under high temperature after ball milling for 4 h processing. The YAG phase was successfully prepared at 1400 ℃ for 60 min , and the YAG powder was found to be dispersed well and uniform, and the grain size was about 0.5 μm.

Key words: yttrium aluminum garnet, sol-gel, solid state reaction
