Abstract: This paper aims to tackle the translation chaos and problems of Chinese ceramic cultural terms. Theories of translation –domestication and foreignization, meaning and form in systemic functional linguistics are employed for this end. It concludes four common translation methods (liberal translation, free translation method with filling, literal translation and literal translation with notes) are usually used for ceramic cultural terms. With the assistance of added lively pictures, adjectives and adverbs, many translation methods, such as combination translation, flexible translation, discriminative translation, and so on, are explored. It provides more systemic and operational suggestions for the translation of distinctive Chinese cultural terms for international exchange.

Key words: ceramic culture; international exchange; translation strategy
