Abstract: Traditional red ceramic pigments were classified according to the main color elements, the research progress of new ceramic red pigments developed in recent years was discussed, especially that of environment-friendly and non-toxic rare earth red ceramic pigments.Finally the research prospects of red ceramic pigments were explored. High temperature red ceramic pigments with rare earth elements such as Ce1-xPrxO2, YAl1-xCrxO3, (Bi1-xREx)2O3, Y2-xTbxZr2-yFeyO7-δ, etc. as the main colorants were the future development direction. Preparation of lower cost, better chemical stability, fine grain size, and stable color pigments by optimization of preparation technology, combination of various preparation methods and development of new preparation systems tend to be the target of industrialization in the future..
