Abstract: γ-Ce2S3 is an environmentally friendly non-toxic inorganic brightred pigment. It is considered to be the best substitute for the currently widely used CdSe1-xSx, because of its bright color, strong covering capability and excellent UV resistance. However, γ-Ce2S3 decomposes oxidatively at 350 °C and loses red color, limiting its high-temperature applications. In this paper, from the crystal structure point view, the effects of preparation method, ion doping and coating on crystal structure, chromaticity and thermal stability of γ-Ce2S3 are comprehensively reviewed. In addition, the problems in the current research are presented and the future research directions are proposed.
Key words: γ-Ce2S3 bright red pigment; ion doping; encapsulated pigment; thermal stability
